In our campaigns, the line between life and death is a fragile thread. Too add urgency to player actions we've modified the D&D Death Save mechanics in our games.
The Game Master (GM) will privately roll and note the results of a PC's Death Saves.
On their turn, characters hovering on the precipice will be compelled to narrate a poignant scene from their past. Whether it's a moment of regret, a cherished love, or a profound loss, these memories flash vividly, providing a glimpse into the soul's journey.
PCs will gain a level of exhaustion each time they drop to zero hit points. One level of exhaustion can be alleviated with a short rest, while a long rest will remove all accumulated levels.
